Singer-songwriter Rob Thomas is marking a major creative resurgence with the release of his new single “Hard to Be Happy,” which dropped on July 11, 2025. The song serves as the lead preview from his forthcoming sixth solo album, All Night Days, due out on September 5. Along with the new music, Thomas announced The All Night Days Tour, a 25-city U.S. headlining run that begins on August 1 and continues through September 6. The tour will feature support from A Great Big World on all dates and The Lucky opening select shows.
Thomas, known for his work both as a solo artist and the frontman of Matchbox Twenty, described “Hard to Be Happy” as a bittersweet anthem. He explained that the track is meant to give listeners permission to feel what they need to feel, even in the middle of a catchy tune. The single blends introspection with upbeat pop, offering a strong entry point into what he has described as a deeply personal and musically diverse album.
The upcoming album will be his first under Universal Records, signaling a new chapter in his career following years with Atlantic Records. It also coincides with the 20th anniversary of his debut solo album, …Something to Be, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2005. All Night Days is expected to reflect the range of Thomas’s songwriting, moving between energetic radio-ready tracks and more intimate, acoustic numbers such as the B-side “Thrill Me.”

The tour will open in Atlanta at the Synovus Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park and conclude in Los Angeles at the YouTube Theater. The route includes major cities such as Nashville, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Houston, and Las Vegas. Tickets were made available to fans via a presale that began in May, with general admission tickets released shortly afterward.
This will be Thomas’s first solo headlining tour since 2019’s Chip Tooth Tour, and follows the conclusion of Matchbox Twenty’s Slow Dream Tour in 2024. His setlist is expected to include hits from across his solo catalog—like “Lonely No More,” “Her Diamonds,” and “Little Wonders”—alongside Matchbox Twenty classics and new songs from All Night Days. Longtime fans can also look forward to a live performance of “Smooth,” his iconic Grammy-winning collaboration with Santana.
In interviews, Thomas has expressed gratitude for his enduring connection with audiences. He emphasized the power of music to evoke memories, saying it’s a privilege to become part of people’s nostalgia. With this tour and album, he’s aiming to strike a balance between honoring that legacy and exploring new creative ground.
Rob Thomas’s return to the spotlight comes at a time when nostalgia is a powerful draw in the music world, but his continued growth as a songwriter promises something more than just a greatest hits revival. All Night Days and its accompanying tour look set to reaffirm his place as one of pop rock’s most versatile and enduring voices.
