National Release – June 20, 2025
Alt-pop trio Haim—sisters Danielle, Este, and Alana—released their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Quit, on June 20, 2025. Co-produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij, the 15-track LP features songwriting collaborations with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Tobias Jesso Jr., Cass McCombs, Ariel Rechtshaid, Daniel Aged, and Jack Hallenbeck.
The album opens with “Gone,” which creatively samples George Michael’s Freedom! ’90, and closes with “Now It’s Time,” echoing U2’s Numb. Early singles—“Relationships,” “Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out,” “Down to Be Wrong,” and “Take Me Back”—premiered via The Tonight Show and other platforms, receiving praise for their lyrical depth and sonic texture.
Critics have warmly welcomed the album. Pitchfork placed I Quit among this week’s essential releases, noting a blend of California rock, acoustic textures, and Americana. They assigned it a 7.0 score, applauding its balance of growth and grounded songwriting . Meanwhile, The Guardian described it as a “stark departure,” lauding its raw honesty and eclectic genre mix—garage-blues, R&B, nu-metal, and ’70s soft rock—even as it allowed for tonal missteps. Rolling Stone UK praised its cohesion and feel of a “HAIM summer,” celebrating how it seamlessly integrates classic rock, pop, country, UK garage, and even disco. AP News called it a dynamic, emotionally resonant breakup record—framing it as the soundtrack to a “single-girl summer.”
Thematically, I Quit delves into personal evolution and emotional liberation. Danielle Haim shares that the title was inspired by the film That Thing You Do!, where characters repeatedly say “I quit” into a mic—a childhood in-joke turned thematic anchor for the album’s message of quitting what no longer serves.
Recording marked a turning point for the trio. It’s their first full record without longtime producer Ariel Rechtshaid—Danielle’s former partner—and a more spontaneous, relaxed session, as reported by DIY. The creative energy in the studio brought laughter, dancing, and genuine connection among the sisters.
Commercially, Haim has already announced the I Quit Tour, launching September 4, 2025, in Philadelphia with stops across North America and the UK—including Madison Square Garden—supported by Dora Jar.
With I Quit, Haim blend introspective themes and wide-ranging musical influences—from George Michael and U2 to classic rock and garage-pop—into a modern alt-pop-rock tapestry. Critics call it a cathartic and confident statement; listeners describe it as deeply earned, emotionally rich, and refreshingly bold.
