Discover how Kervy Delcy, a visionary arts leader, uses music and education to connect diverse cultures and inspire the next generation of artists.
Kervy Delcy, also known as Lady K, has become a defining force in the world of music, education, and cultural empowerment. As a Haitian-American Composer, Conductor, Poet, Librettist, Polyglot, and Global Arts Leader, she has not only carved a unique niche for herself but has actively worked to redefine the arts landscape. Her journey is a testament to the power of art to transform lives, inspire, and foster cross-cultural understanding.
From Dreaming of Law to Leading the Arts
As a young girl, Kervy Delcy was once convinced she was destined for a career in law. She vividly remembers playing the role of a lawyer in an after-school program at her Catholic school and refusing to take off her robe after the performance. However, life had other plans. A spirited nun named Sister Jeanne, who sang and danced with her, helped awaken Kervy’s love of music, setting her on a different path. At five years old, her mother introduced her to poetry, a craft that Kervy quickly mastered, becoming the chosen speaker for Haitian Flag Day celebrations every year. As she grew, Kervy’s creative gifts expanded. By age nine, she was waking up with original melodies composed in her dreams, unknowingly developing her talent for songwriting.
Overcoming Challenges and Paving Her Own Path
Kervy’s artistry was not limited to poetry or music. At age 11, she began competing in local poetry and singing competitions, earning first place in poetry and second in singing. Her passion for the arts grew alongside her commitment to excellence. But there was much more to her journey. She faced the challenge of blending her cultural roots with a global perspective, and her determination led her to pursue higher education in music and theater. She eventually earned a prestigious Presidential Scholarship and studied music composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Along the way, she embraced her role as a mentor, educator, and philanthropist.
The foundation of her artistic leadership came when Kervy founded Vox Feminarum, an international nonprofit dedicated to promoting the works of women composers through high-level performances and educational initiatives. She also founded Echelon Press, a multimedia platform focused on amplifying the voices of artists through press campaigns, billboards, and artist profiles. These platforms have allowed Kervy to champion the underrepresented voices in the arts, creating spaces for artists to thrive.
In 2020, Kervy expanded her vision even further by launching the Kervy Delcy Performing Arts School (KDPAS), where she now mentors the next generation of musicians, dancers, and poets. Additionally, she is working on Lié, a groundbreaking app that connects musicians with global opportunities, such as jobs, grants, and festivals. Through her diverse ventures, Kervy continues to push for inclusivity, giving artists from all backgrounds access to the resources and recognition they deserve.
A Vision for Global Artistic Excellence
What truly sets Kervy apart is her holistic approach to the arts. As a composer, conductor, and poet, she blends cultural influences from around the world to create emotionally resonant works. Her compositions fuse contemporary classical idioms with deep emotional resonance, appealing to diverse audiences across genres. Her artistic endeavors aren’t confined to the concert hall but extend into the educational spaces where she actively shapes the next generation of creatives.
Kervy’s vision is about more than just producing music; it’s about creating a legacy of cross-cultural exchange and empowering artists globally. “Art has the power to unite us,” she says. “Through music, we transcend boundaries and connect in ways that words alone cannot.”
Her achievements speak for themselves. She is a fellowship composer with the American Opera Project’s Composers & the Voice program, collaborating with leading vocalists and mentors to create new operatic works. Her study under Dr. Philip Lasser at EAMA in Paris further solidified her international credentials. Not to mention, Kervy has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Presidential Scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music, the Tow International Research Grant from Brooklyn College, and two Bronx Medals from the Global Music Awards.
